Big Apple – where it all began

An “open sesame“ for the city that never sleeps

The Big Apple Greeters were founded in New York City in 1992 as a „Welcome Visitor Program“. The initiator Lynn Brooks had a good reason to start the program: During her travels she met many people who wanted to visit NYC but also the metropolis seemed too huge to them, too expensive, and too dangerous to them. Lynn decided to put an end to these prejudices and bring the Big Apple closer to its visitors, by showing it in a way that she knew it herself: A charming city with many small neighborhoods, exciting suburbs and kind people. The initiative of the Big Apple Greeters was born.
